Current and voltage traces were digitized and command pulses were generated by custom-designed software (TIWB; Inoue et al. 1998) run on a Mac OS computer which controlled an ITC-18 interface (HEKA Instruments). TIWB software also controlled the camera and shutter which allowed precise synchronization between electrophysiological and optical. Amphetamine salt combo (Adderall) is a moderately priced drug used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy (uncontrollable desire for sleep or sudden attacks of deep sleep). Amphetamine salts are available in generic and brand versions. Generic Adderall is covered by some Medicare and insurance plans, but pharmacy coupons or cash prices may be lower. Narcolepsy is a long-term neurological disorder that involves a decreased ability to regulate sleep-wake cycles. Symptoms often include periods of excessive daytime sleepiness and brief involuntary sleep episodes.

This activity was developed for sleep specialists, neurologists, psychiatrists, primary care physicians, advanced practice nurses, and physician assistants.
This 60-minute CME activity features an expert faculty panel comprised of two sleep experts, a cardiologist and a dietitian, that will engage in an interactive discussion about current evidence-based insights to manage people with narcolepsy - cataplexy (type I) using a combination of medications and behavioral interventions to reduce the likelihood of stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure and cardiac arrest in this vulnerable population. After examining the latest evidence and data surround emerging agents, the faculty will provide expert recommendations for the management of several patient scenarios, emphasizing strategies to address current gaps in the management of narcolepsy and discuss the place of novel, emerging agents in the treatment algorithm.
